"People hate or criticize what they don't understand"

The above assertion was true about me when it comes to WordPress(WP). I didn't like WP even despite the fact that I saw beautiful websites that it's been used to build, this was because of the believe that it makes developers lazy.

What is WordPress?

According to Wikipedia, WordPress is a free and open-source content management system written in PHP and paired with a MySQL or MariaDB database. Features include a plugin architecture and a template system, referred to within WordPress as Themes.

How WordPress Started Paying

2018 was the year, a friend (course mate back then in school) contacted me that his uncle wanted an E-commerce website for his shop (mini supermarket) he wanted the site to also have payment integration and a pay on delivery option but his budget for this project was low if it was to be coded from scratch. He was offering 65k (NGN 65,000). While the amount was kind of huge to let it slide, the task involved in building such project from scratch exceeds the amount "Here Comes The Search For an Alternative", I told him I can build it, payment was made and I contacted two of my friends (Google and YouTube) and shortly the answers I was searching for were right there. 48 hours later Ecommerce website was ready built with WordPress and WooCommerce and fully functional. The client loved what he saw and that was how I started using WordPress for "Low Budget Clients".

High Budget projects can also be developed with WordPress using high budget tools (Themes and Plugins).

Moral Lesson:

Don't condemn or negatively criticize what you don't understand.

Advice

As a Developer, you have a lot of tools at your disposal to use. See all these technologies as different tools: PHP as a programming language is a tool, same as JavaScript, C#, Python, Magento, WordPress, Drupal and many more. What makes you a better developer is your ability to choose the right/best tool to use in achieving good results for a particular project and also maintaining efficiency and scalability.
